Settling into your new nursery

At New River Nursery we know that every child is unique so has a completely different settling in process. Joining a new nursery can be daunting, for both you and your child, that’s why we work closely with you to establish their personality, and help support with the transition.  Children must feel comfortable when settling, we are sure with the procedures we put in place your child will feel secure with our staff, and start to make progress from the start.

It can be beneficial for most children, when they first start with us,  for you to stay in the nursery to help them settle and feel confident in their new environment. The reassurance of having you there helps us build our staff to child bond, and helps them feel secure that you will be coming back, once you leave.

Key Person

From experience, we have found that children settle better when they have a designated ‘Key person’. A key person spends quality one-on-one time getting to know their specified child and their parents, so they can meet their individual needs on a more personal level. We allocate your child(ren) with a key person once they start with us.

This key person will:

  • Act as your main point of contact
  • Provide an induction for you and your child
  • Deliver a personalised plan for your child’s well-being, care and learning.
  • Keep up-to-date records
  • Share information or developments with you on a daily basis.
  • Encourage positive relationships between your child and other children.

Encouraging your child to develop

As parents, you play a vital role in ensuring that your child continues learning at home as well as at preschool.  This is why we maintain effective communication between key workers and parents to create a development plan that takes your child's interests and goals into consideration. We will provide you with regular feedback on their progress and support any actions you can take to further support their learning.

Parents are also encouraged to get involved in the preschool in a variety of ways including;

  • Attending trips organised by the preschool.
  • Using specific skills to enhance the preschool curriculum.
  • Supporting organised fundraising activities/events.

Rooms for 2 year olds

At New River Nursery we have separate rooms for our smaller visitors. We have created a smaller, more nurturing environment for 2 year olds to aid their development. These rooms are self contained  with restrooms. To encourage learning we have assigned 1 teacher for 4 children.

Rooms for 3-5 year olds

At New River Nursery we understand that child development is important and we try and aid that all the time. Our 3-5 year olds have a bigger room, with more space and activities. We aim to encourage children with independence and collaboration, thus we have 1 teacher assigned to 8-13 children.

Allergies & Diet at New River Nursery

In each session, we provide children with a healthy snack consisting of milk, water, crackers, fruit or vegetables. If your child is staying for lunch, please provide a healthy packed lunch. Hot food must be provided in a food flask as we cannot re-heat food for health and safety reasons. We ask that you contribute some fresh fruits each week. These fruits are shared between the children at snack times.
